Safe and Civil Schools

The Safe Civil Schools program is designed to help school staff improve safety and civility across all school settings. By so doing, school personnel lay a foundation to engage students and enhance learning.

The goal of Safe Civil Schools is to empower school staff with techniques to help all students behave responsibly and respectfully.

Safe Civil Schools program beliefs:

1. All students must be treated with dignity and respect.

2. Students should be taught the skills and behaviors necessary for success.

3. Motivation and responsibility should be encouraged through positive interactions and building relationships with students.

4. Student misbehavior represents a teaching opportunity.

The Safe and Civil team at Burbank is committed to making sure all students are safe and treat each other and staff members with respect at all times.  The team works hard on creating procedures for common areas such as the hallways, restrooms, playground and procedures for playground equipment.  The team also makes sure that all staff members are clear and consistent regarding student expectations in these common areas.   The Guidelines for Success were created by all staff members under the direction of the team and these seven guidelines are what all students follow everyday at Burbank.  The number one goal is to keep students safe at Burbank at all times.

The Excel program is designed to meet the needs of high ability and intellectually gifted students. Classroom instruction begins with the grade level core curriculum and is differentiated based upon student need and ability. The development of critical thinking is emphasized. When participating in a differentiated curriculum, bright, talented students will become analytical thinkers, creative producers, and practical problem solvers.

Go Math

There are exciting changes in the math curriculum starting with a new math textbook. Your students will be working in teams, pairs, and on their own during math instructional time. More emphasis is being placed on students' ability to voice and write about the math that is being taught in the classroom. As parents, your help is always integral to your child's education. Count with your child, in the grocery store have them help you by keeping a mental tab on how much money will be needed to buy the items in your cart, and keep practicing basic math facts with them. Below is a link to the districts math website and parent resource site. Let's make math an exciting and daily experience.

Write from the Beginning
